US’s 47th President Donald Trump, who campaigned on the promise to make America great again, has introduced a new global perspective, as countries that were previously at odds became more cooperative, while some traditionally friendly nations experienced tensions with the US. On Friday, Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize for his efforts in promoting peace and unity worldwide. FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Trump’s actions, presenting him with the award at the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony.

President Trump stated that he had helped prevent numerous conflicts, with a notable achievement being the peace deal signing ceremony held in Egypt to address the Gaza conflict. This initiative brought Arab and Muslim nations together, creating a platform for cooperation and limiting the need for countries like Iran and Afghanistan to seek external sympathy. The focus was on promoting global peace while opposing the existence of terrorist organizations like Hamas.

Some of the conflicts reportedly addressed under Trump’s administration in 2025 include:

  • Israel and Hamas: A ceasefire agreement was brokered, resulting in a prisoner exchange and partial pullback of Israeli troops in Gaza. The deal involved Hamas releasing 20 living hostages and returning the remains of 28 deceased hostages, while Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees and handed over the bodies of 360 Palestinians.

  • Armenia and Azerbaijan: A joint declaration for peace was signed on August 8, 2025, after decades of conflict. The agreement included a regional economic framework and infrastructure investment, though experts described it as a non-binding declaration lacking a clear path to sustainable peace.

  • Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda: A peace agreement was signed on December 4, 2025, aiming to end conflict in eastern Congo. The agreement covered a permanent ceasefire, disarmament, refugee return, and economic integration, although fighting has continued, and some experts suggest the deal prioritized US access to Congolese minerals over long-term stability.

  • India and Pakistan: A ceasefire was agreed to in May 2025, after a dispute began on May 7. The Trump administration assisted in managing the conflict to prevent escalation.

  • Cambodia and Thailand: A ceasefire was reached on July 28, 2025, following five days of deadly fighting. Trump communicated directly with both prime ministers, and the US sent delegates to facilitate discussions in Malaysia.

  • Iran and Israel: No ceasefire agreement was reported in 2025, although the Trump administration proposed a peace plan to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  • Serbia and Kosovo: Economic normalization agreements were facilitated, although a formal peace deal has not been signed.

  • Ethiopia and Egypt: The Trump administration mediated a dispute over a large hydropower dam during his first term, though tensions remain.

Efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict continue under the Trump administration, but a final resolution has not yet been achieved.
