Trump to Meet NYC Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani at White House
The meeting will cover public safety, economic security, and affordability.

US President Donald Trump said he will meet New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on November 21, marking their first meeting. The two have been critical of each other, with Trump having supported Mamdani’s opponent, Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani has criticized the Trump administration’s policies, including its approach to immigration and its support for Israel during the Gaza conflict. Mamdani’s team reached out to the White House to arrange the meeting, and a spokesperson said it will focus on public safety, economic security, and affordability issues.
During the mayoral campaign, Trump threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Mamdani won. The federal government provides $7.4 billion to the city in fiscal year 2026, which is about 6.4 percent of the city’s total spending.
Trump has labeled Mamdani a “communist,” while Mamdani’s campaign emphasized opposing Trump’s policies, particularly on immigration. Mamdani is scheduled to be sworn in as mayor on January 1, 2026.
