Jim Furyk is set to return as captain of Team USA for the Ryder Cup 2027, marking a second chance for the experienced leader as the Americans look to reverse years of European dominance.

The decision comes after Tiger Woods stepped away from consideration following personal circumstances, prompting the selection committee to move forward with Furyk as a trusted and familiar choice.

Furyk previously captained the US team in 2018, where Europe secured a convincing victory in Paris. Despite that setback, he remains a respected figure within American golf, having guided the team to success in the Presidents Cup and played a key advisory role in recent Ryder Cup setups.

The challenge ahead is significant. Team USA has struggled on European soil for decades, with its last away victory dating back to 1993. Meanwhile, Europe continues to dominate the competition, winning the majority of matchups over the past 30 years.

The 2027 edition, set to take place in Ireland, will see Furyk go head-to-head with Luke Donald, who is aiming to secure a historic third consecutive victory as Europe’s captain.

Furyk joins a select group of American captains, including Jack Nicklaus and Davis Love III, who have been given multiple opportunities to lead the team.

For Team USA, the mission is clear: break the cycle, reclaim momentum, and prove they can win under the most challenging conditions — away from home.
