EAST ORANGE, N.J. — TN News — New Jersey State Senator Britnee N. Timberlake will host a celebration honoring Newark Council President Luis A. Quintana on September 25, 2026, recognizing his years of public service and his place in Newark’s history.
The event will take place from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Timberlake Charles Community Empowerment Center in East Orange, according to the invitation.
Quintana’s career includes several milestones for Latino representation in Newark. First elected to the Municipal Council in 1994, he became the city’s first Hispanic elected council member at large. He also served as Council President and as interim mayor from 2013 to 2014. His background and leadership roles are documented in his official City of Newark biography.
Born in Añasco, Puerto Rico, Quintana moved to Newark as a child. His public service has included work with young people, civic organizations, and community initiatives. According to the city’s biography, he also founded The Newark Three Kings Celebration, Inc., which provides events and resources for children and seniors.
The invitation highlights Quintana as Newark’s longest-serving Latino elected official and one of the longest-serving council members in the city’s history. The upcoming gathering will celebrate that record and his contributions to the community.
